Greeting

1:1Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace to you and peace.

Thanksgiving for the Thessalonians’ Faith

1:2We always give thanks to God for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers, unceasingly

1:3remembering your work of faith and labor of love and endurance of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ before our God and Father,

1:4knowing, brothers beloved by God, your election,

1:5because our gospel did not come to you in word alone, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and in great assurance, just as you know what kind of people we became among you for your sake.

1:6And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, receiving the word in great affliction with joy from the Holy Spirit,

1:7so that you became an example to all who believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.

1:8For from you the word of the Lord has sounded out, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith toward God has gone out in every place, so that we have no need to say anything.

1:9For they themselves report about us what kind of entrance we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God

1:10and to await His Son from the heavens, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
