V. Salvation
The fourfold Gospel of Jesus Christ: His life, cross, and resurrection.
What this division is
Salvation brings together Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The four Gospels bear distinct and complementary witness to Jesus Christ: His coming among us, His teaching and works of mercy, His call to discipleship, His suffering and death, and His bodily resurrection. At the centre of this division is the person and saving work of the Lord Himself.
Why seven divisions?
Saints Translation groups its seventy books into seven connected movements: Law establishes the covenant foundations; Judgement confronts sin and suffering; Wisdom forms the heart; Providence follows God’s preserving purpose; Salvation proclaims Christ’s redeeming work; Discipleship describes life in Him; and Glory looks toward its fulfilment. Seven recalls the completion and holy rest of the creation week (Genesis 2:1–3). This is the reading arrangement used in this edition. Its divisions help us follow one unfolding story while attending to the distinct voice of each book.
Salvation stands here because the promises and longings developed in the earlier divisions come into focus in Jesus. It is the turning point of the sevenfold journey, from preparation and expectation to the proclamation of the Redeemer who has come.
Christ and His saved people
Here Christ is encountered directly as the incarnate Son, the crucified and risen Saviour, and the Lord who reveals the Father. He announces God’s kingdom, seeks the lost, forgives sins, gives His life, and rises victorious over death. His resurrection opens the proclamation of repentance and forgiveness to all nations.
His saved people are gathered around the living Christ. They receive His mercy, answer His call in faith and repentance, enter the life of baptism, and learn to love as He loves. Sent as His witnesses, they carry the good news into the world in confidence that the risen Lord remains with them.
