The Day of the Lord

2:1Now we ask you, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,

2:2not to be quickly shaken from your understanding or alarmed, either by a spirit or by a word or by a letter as though from us, as if the day of the Lord is already present.

The Man of Lawlessness

2:3Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,

2:4who opposes and exalts himself above everything called god or an object of worship, so that he takes his seat in God’s sanctuary, displaying himself as being God.

2:5Do you not remember that when I was still with you I used to tell you these things?

2:6And now you know what restrains, so that he may be revealed in his own time.

2:7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only, the one who now restrains does so until he is out of the way.

2:8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of His mouth and bring to nothing by the manifestation of His coming.

2:9His coming is according to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and wonders of falsehood,

2:10and with every deception of unrighteousness for those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth so that they might be saved.

2:11And for this reason God sends them a working of delusion, so that they believe the falsehood,

2:12in order that all who did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness may be judged.

Chosen for Salvation

2:13But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits for salvation in sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.

2:14To this He called you through our gospel, for obtaining the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2:15So then, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, whether by a word or by a letter from us.

2:16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal encouragement and good hope in grace,

2:17encourage your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
