The Lame Man at the Beautiful Gate

3:1Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer.

3:2A man unable to walk from his mother’s womb was being carried there. They used to place him each day at the temple gate called Beautiful, to ask for alms from those entering the temple.

3:3When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple, he asked to receive alms.

3:4Peter, together with John, looked intently at him and said, “Look at us.”

3:5He paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them.

3:6But Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, walk.”

3:7Taking him by the right hand, he raised him up. At once his feet and ankles were strengthened.

3:8Leaping up, he stood and began walking. He entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

3:9All the people saw him walking and praising God.

3:10They recognized him as the one who used to sit for alms at the temple’s Beautiful Gate, and they were filled with wonder and astonishment at what had happened to him.

Peter Speaks in Solomon’s Portico

3:11As he held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the portico called Solomon’s, utterly astonished.

3:12When Peter saw this, he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this, or why do you stare at us as though we had made him walk by our own power or godliness?

3:13The God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied before Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.

3:14But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you.

3:15You killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead; we are witnesses of this.

3:16Through faith in His name, His name has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith that is through Him has given him this complete soundness before all of you.

Repent and Turn Back

3:17And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your rulers.

3:18But what God announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets—that His Christ would suffer—He has fulfilled in this way.

3:19Repent, therefore, and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped away,

3:20so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and He may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus,

3:21whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things of which God spoke through the mouth of His holy prophets from long ago.

Moses Said, the Lord God Will Raise Up a Prophet

3:22Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You shall listen to him in everything he says to you.

3:23Every person who does not listen to that prophet will be destroyed from among the people.’

3:24And all the prophets, from Samuel and those who followed—as many as spoke—also announced these days.

3:25You are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘In your seed all the families of the earth will be blessed.’

3:26God raised up His Servant and sent Him first to you, to bless you by turning each of you away from your wicked deeds.”
