He Is Not Ashamed to Call Them Brothers

A Warning Against Drifting Away
2:1For this reason we must attend all the more to the things heard, lest we drift away.
2:2For if the word spoken through angels became firm, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense,
2:3how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? It began to be spoken through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard,
2:4God bearing witness together with signs and wonders and various mighty deeds and distributions of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.
The World to Come Subjected to the Son
2:5For He did not subject to angels the inhabited world to come, of which we speak.
2:6But someone testified somewhere, saying, “What is a human being, that You remember him, or a son of man, that You care for him?
2:7You made him a little lower than angels; You crowned him with glory and honor;
2:8You subjected all things beneath his feet.” For in subjecting all things, He left nothing unsubjected to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him.
2:9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that apart from God He might taste death on behalf of everyone.
2:10For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons into glory, to perfect the pioneer of their salvation through sufferings.
2:11For both the One who sanctifies and those being sanctified are all from one. For this reason He is not ashamed to call them brothers,
2:12saying, “I will announce Your name to My brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.”
2:13And again, “I will put My trust in Him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God gave Me.”
Made Like His Brothers
2:14Therefore, since the children have shared in blood and flesh, He Himself likewise partook of the same, so that through death He might render powerless the one who has the might of death, that is, the devil,
2:15and release those who through fear of death were subject to slavery throughout their whole lives.
2:16For surely it is not angels He takes hold of, but He takes hold of Abraham’s seed.
2:17Therefore He had to be made like His brothers in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in matters concerning God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
2:18For because He Himself suffered when tested, He is able to help those who are being tested.
