A Better Covenant, Written on Their Hearts

The High Priest of a Better Covenant
8:1Now the main point in what is being said is this: we have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
8:2a minister of the holy places and of the true tent, which the Lord pitched, not a human being.
8:3For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices; therefore this One too must have something to offer.
8:4Now if He were on earth, He would not even be a priest, since there are those who offer the gifts according to law.
8:5They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was instructed when he was about to complete the tent. For He says, “See that you make everything according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain.”
8:6But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, insofar as He is also mediator of a better covenant, which has been established as law upon better promises.
The New Covenant
8:7For if that first covenant had been faultless, no place would have been sought for a second.
8:8For, finding fault with them, He says, “Look, days are coming, says the Lord, and I will conclude a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,
8:9not according to the covenant I made with their fathers on the day I took hold of their hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not remain in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.
8:10For this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: putting My laws into their mind, I will also inscribe them upon their hearts, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.
8:11And they shall certainly not teach, each his fellow citizen and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because all will know Me, from their small to their great.
8:12For I will be merciful toward their wrongdoings, and I will certainly remember their sins no more.”
8:13By saying “new,” He has made the first old. And what is becoming old and aging is near disappearance.
