Philemon 1

Charge It to My Account, and Receive Him as You Would Me

Greeting

1:1Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy the brother, to Philemon, our beloved fellow worker,

1:2and to Apphia the sister, and Archippus our fellow soldier, and the Church in your house:

1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1:4I thank my God always, remembering you in my prayers,

1:5hearing of your love and the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints,

1:6that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through recognition of every good thing among us for Christ.

1:7For I had great joy and encouragement because of your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.

1:8Therefore, although I have great boldness in Christ to command you to do what is fitting,

1:9I appeal instead because of love, being as I am, Paul, an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus—

1:10I appeal to you for my child Onesimus, whose father I became while in chains,

1:11who was once useless to you but is now useful to you and to me.

1:12I am sending him back to you—him, that is, my own heart.

1:13I wanted to keep him with me, so that in your place he might serve me in my chains for the gospel.

1:14But without your consent I did not want to do anything, so that your good deed might be voluntary, rather than as though compelled.

1:15For perhaps he was separated from you for a little while for this reason: that you might have him back forever,

1:16no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

1:17So if you regard me as a partner, welcome him as you would me.

1:18And if he has wronged you in anything or owes you anything, charge that to my account.

1:19I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it—not to mention that you owe me even your own self.

1:20Yes, brother, let me have this benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ.

1:21Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say.

1:22At the same time, prepare lodging for me also, for I hope that through your prayers I will be graciously given to you.

1:23Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,

1:24as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.

1:25The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
