Unity Through Humility
2:1So if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender affection and compassion,
2:2complete my joy by thinking the same thing, having the same love, united in soul, thinking the one thing,
2:3doing nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility considering one another above yourselves,
2:4each looking not to your own interests, but each also to those of others.
The Mind of Christ
2:5Have this mind among yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
2:6who, existing in the form of God, did not regard being equal with God as something to exploit,
2:7but emptied Himself, taking the form of a slave, coming to be in the likeness of human beings; and being found in appearance as a human being,
2:8He humbled Himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
2:9Therefore God also highly exalted Him and graciously gave Him the name above every name,
2:10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
2:11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Lights in the World
2:12So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only as in my presence but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,
2:13for God is the One working in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
2:14Do all things without grumbling and disputing,
2:15so that you may become blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
2:16holding fast the word of life, so that I may boast in the day of Christ that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
2:17But even if I am being poured out upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and rejoice together with all of you.
2:18And in the same way you too rejoice and rejoice together with me.
Timothy
2:19Now I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be encouraged when I know about your circumstances.
2:20For I have no one of like soul who will sincerely care about your circumstances,
2:21for all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.
2:22But you know his proven character, that as a child with a father he served with me for the gospel.
2:23So I hope to send him immediately, as soon as I see how things stand with me.
2:24And I am confident in the Lord that I myself also will come soon.
Epaphroditus
2:25But I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need,
2:26since he was longing for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.
2:27Indeed, he was sick, near death; but God had mercy on him, and not on him alone but also on me, so that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow.
2:28Therefore I sent him all the more eagerly, so that seeing him again you might rejoice and I might be less sorrowful.
2:29So welcome him in the Lord with all joy, and hold such people in honor,
2:30because he came near to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up what was lacking in your service to me.
