Do Not Destroy the One for Whom Christ Died

Welcome the Weak in Faith

14:1Welcome the one who is weak in faith, but not for disputes over reasonings.

14:2One believes he may eat all things, but the weak person eats vegetables.

14:3Let not the one who eats despise the one who does not eat; and let not the one who does not eat judge the one who eats, for God welcomed him.

14:4Who are you who judges another’s household slave? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will be made to stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

14:5One judges one day above another, but another judges every day alike. Let each be fully assured in his own mind.

14:6The one who regards the day regards it for the Lord. And the one who eats eats for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and the one who does not eat refrains for the Lord and gives thanks to God.

14:7For none of us lives for himself, and none dies for himself;

14:8for if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. So whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

14:9For to this end Christ died and lived, so that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

All Will Stand Before the Judgment Seat

14:10But why do you judge your brother? Or you also, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat,

14:11for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bend to Me, and every tongue will confess to God.”

14:12So each of us will give an account concerning himself.

Do Not Cause Your Brother to Stumble

14:13Therefore let us no longer judge one another; but judge this instead: not to place a stumbling block or a snare for a brother.

14:14I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; except that to the one who reckons something unclean, to that person it is unclean.

14:15For if your brother is grieved because of food, you no longer walk according to love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died.

14:16Therefore let not your good be blasphemed.

14:17For God’s kingdom is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit;

14:18for the one who serves Christ in this is pleasing to God and approved by people.

Pursue Peace and Upbuilding

14:19So then, let us pursue the things of peace and the things of building up one another.

14:20Do not tear down God’s work for the sake of food. All things indeed are clean, but it is evil for the person who eats through a stumbling block.

14:21It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything by which your brother stumbles or is ensnared or becomes weak.

14:22The faith you have, keep to yourself before God. Blessed is the one who does not judge himself in what he approves.

14:23But the one who doubts, if he eats, has been condemned, because it is not from faith; and everything that is not from faith is sin.
