The Fifth Trumpet
9:1And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth, and the key of the shaft of the abyss was given to him.
9:2And he opened the shaft of the abyss, and smoke went up from the shaft like smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened from the smoke of the shaft.
9:3And from the smoke locusts went out to the earth, and authority was given to them as the scorpions of the earth have authority.
9:4And they were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green thing or any tree, but only the people who do not have the seal of God upon their foreheads.
9:5And it was given to them not to kill them, but that they should be tormented for five months; and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a human being.
9:6And in those days people will seek death and will certainly not find it, and will desire to die, and death flees from them.
9:7And the likenesses of the locusts were like horses prepared for war, and upon their heads were things like crowns resembling gold, and their faces were like human faces,
9:8and they had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth,
9:9and they had breastplates like iron breastplates, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots of many horses running to war.
9:10And they have tails like scorpions and stings, and in their tails is their authority to harm people for five months.
9:11They have as king over them the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.
9:12The one woe has passed. Look, two woes are still coming after these things.
The Sixth Trumpet
9:13And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard one voice from the horns of the golden altar before God,
9:14saying to the sixth angel, the one who has the trumpet, “Loose the four angels bound at the great river Euphrates.”
9:15And the four angels prepared for the hour and day and month and year were loosed, so that they might kill a third of the people.
9:16And the number of the armies of the cavalry was two myriads of myriads; I heard their number.
9:17And thus I saw the horses in the vision and those sitting upon them, having breastplates of fiery red and hyacinth blue and sulfur yellow; and the heads of the horses were like lions’ heads, and from their mouths come out fire and smoke and sulfur.
9:18From these three plagues a third of the people were killed: from the fire and the smoke and the sulfur coming out of their mouths.
9:19For the authority of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like snakes, having heads, and with them they harm.
The Rest Did Not Repent
9:20And the rest of the people, who were not killed by these plagues, did not even repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship the demons and the idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk.
9:21And they did not repent of their murders or their sorcerous potions or their sexual immorality or their thefts.
