Victories over the Foreigners and Moab
18:1After these things David struck the foreigners and routed them. He took Geth and its villages from the foreigners’ hand.
18:2He struck Moab, and Moab became servants to David, bringing gifts.
The Defeat of Adraazar and the Syrians
18:3David struck Adraazar king of Souba, Hemath, as he went to establish his hand upon the River Euphrates.
18:4David seized from them a thousand chariots, seven thousand horses, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. David disabled all the chariots, but left a hundred chariots from them.
18:5The Syrian came from Damascus to help Adraazar king of Souba, and David struck twenty-two thousand men among the Syrian force.
18:6David placed a garrison in Syria near Damascus, and they became servants to David, bringing gifts. The Lord kept saving David in all his journeys.
18:7David took the golden collars that were upon Adraazar’s servants and brought them to Jerusalem.
18:8From Metabechas and from Adraazar’s choice cities David took a very great amount of bronze. From it Solomon made the bronze sea, the pillars, and the bronze vessels.
The Gifts of Thoa King of Hemath
18:9Thoa king of Hemath heard that David had struck the entire force of Adraazar king of Souba.
18:10He sent his son Idouram to King David to inquire after his peace and to bless him because he had fought Adraazar and struck him, for Thoa was a hostile man toward Adraazar. With him were all the silver and gold vessels.
18:11David consecrated these also to the Lord, with the silver and gold he had taken from all the nations: from Idumea, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the foreigners, and Amalek.
Abessa Strikes Idumea
18:12Abessa son of Sarouia struck Idumea in the Valley of Salts: eighteen thousand.
18:13He placed garrisons in the valley, and all the Idumeans became David’s servants. The Lord kept saving David in all his journeys.
The Officers of David’s Kingdom
18:14David reigned over all Israel, and he administered judgment and righteousness for all his people.
18:15Joab son of Sarouia was over the army, and Josaphat son of Achiloud was recorder.
18:16Sadok son of Achitob and Achimelech son of Abiathar were priests, and Sousa was secretary.
18:17Banaias son of Jodae was over the Chereththi and the Pheleththi, and David’s sons were the king’s foremost successors.
