The Taking of Rabba

20:1In the following year, when the kings went out, Joab led the army’s entire force, and they devastated the country of the sons of Ammon. He came and besieged Rabba, while David remained in Jerusalem. Joab struck Rabba and razed it.

20:2David took the crown of Molchol their king from his head. Its weight was found to be a talent of gold, with a precious stone in it, and it came upon David’s head. He brought out a very great amount of spoil from the city.

20:3He brought out the people who were in it and sawed them apart with saws and iron adzes. David did this to all the sons of Ammon. David and all his people returned to Jerusalem.

The Wars with the Giants

20:4After these things there was again war with the foreigners at Gazer. Then Sobochai the Ousathi struck Saphou, one of the sons of the giants, and humbled him.

20:5There was again war with the foreigners. Ellanan son of Jair struck Leemi, brother of Goliath the Geththite, whose spear shaft was like a weavers’ beam.

20:6There was again war at Geth. There was a man of extraordinary size whose digits were six and six, twenty-four; he too was descended from giants.

20:7He reproached Israel, and Jonathan son of Samaa, David’s brother, struck him.

20:8These belonged to Rapha in Geth. They were four giants in all, and they fell by David’s hand and by the hand of his servants.
