He Gathered the Stones for a House He Would Not Build

Preparations for the House of the Lord
22:1David said, “This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar for whole burnt offering for Israel.”
22:2David ordered all the resident foreigners in Israel’s land to be gathered. He appointed quarrymen to cut dressed stones for building a house for God.
22:3David prepared much iron for the nails of the doorways and gates and for hinges, and bronze in abundance, beyond weighing.
22:4There were cedar timbers beyond counting, because the Sidonians and Tyrians brought cedar timbers to David in abundance.
22:5David said, “My son Solomon is a tender child, and the house to be built for the Lord must rise to greatness, renowned and glorious throughout all the earth. I will prepare for it.” David prepared in abundance before his death.
David Charges Solomon to Build
22:6He called Solomon his son and commanded him to build the house for the Lord, the God of Israel.
22:7David said to Solomon, “Child, it came upon my soul to build a house for the name of the Lord God.
22:8But the Lord’s word came upon me, saying, ‘You have poured out much blood and waged great wars. You shall not build a house for My name, because you have poured out much blood upon the earth before Me.
22:9Look, a son is born to you; he will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all the enemies around him, for Solomon is his name, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days.
22:10He will build a house for My name. He will be a son to Me, and I will be a Father to him. I will set upright the throne of his kingdom in Israel forever.’
22:11Now, my son, the Lord will be with you, and He will grant success, and you will build a house for the Lord your God, as He spoke concerning you.
22:12Only may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding, and strengthen you over Israel, to observe and to do the law of the Lord your God.
22:13Then He will grant success, if you take care to do the ordinances and judgments that the Lord commanded Moses concerning Israel. Act courageously and be strong; do not fear or be terrified.
The Store Prepared for the House
22:14Look, according to my poverty I have prepared for the Lord’s house a hundred thousand talents of gold and a million talents of silver, with bronze and iron beyond weighing because there is so much. I have also prepared timber and stones; add to these.
22:15With you are workers in abundance: artisans, builders in stone, carpenters in wood, and everyone skilled in every kind of work.
22:16In gold, in silver, in bronze, and in iron, there is no counting. Arise and act, and the Lord be with you.”
The Rulers Commanded to Support Solomon
22:17David commanded all the rulers of Israel to support Solomon his son:
22:18“Is not the Lord with you? He has given you rest on every side, for He has given the land’s inhabitants into hands, and the land has been subjected before the Lord and before His people.
22:19Now give your hearts and your souls to seek the Lord your God. Arise and build a sanctuary for the Lord your God, to bring the ark of the Lord’s covenant and God’s holy vessels into the house being built for the Lord’s name.”
