The Lord Appears to Solomon a Second Time

9:1When Solomon had finished building the Lord’s house, the king’s house, and every undertaking Solomon wished to carry out,

9:2the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared at Gibeon.

9:3The Lord said to him, “I have heard the voice of your prayer and supplication which you made before Me. I have done for you according to your whole prayer. I have consecrated this house you built, to put My name there forever; My eyes shall be there and My heart always.

9:4As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, with holiness of heart and uprightness, doing all I commanded him, and keep My ordinances and commandments,

9:5then I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I told your father David, saying, ‘A man ruling in Israel shall not be removed from you.’

9:6But if you and your children indeed turn away from Me and do not keep My commandments and ordinances which Moses set before you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them,

9:7then I will remove Israel from the land I gave them and cast away from My presence this house I consecrated for My name. Israel shall become a disappearance and a subject of talk among all the peoples.

9:8As for this lofty house, everyone passing through it will be astonished and hiss, saying, ‘Why has the Lord done this to this land and this house?’

9:9They will say, ‘Because they abandoned the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, took hold of foreign gods, bowed down to them, and served them; therefore the Lord brought this calamity upon them.’”

Pharaoh’s Daughter and the Building of the Citadel

9:9aThen Solomon brought Pharaoh’s daughter up from the City of David to his house, which he had built for himself in those days.

The Cities Given to Hiram

9:10During the twenty years in which Solomon built the two houses, the Lord’s house and the king’s house,

9:11Hiram king of Tyre assisted Solomon with cedar timber, pine timber, gold, and everything he desired. Then the king gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

9:12Hiram came out from Tyre and went to Galilee to see the cities Solomon had given him, and they did not please him.

9:13He said, “What are these cities you have given me, my brother?” He called them Boundary, as they are called to this day.

9:14Hiram brought Solomon a hundred twenty talents of gold

The Ship at Ezion-geber

9:26and a ship, concerning which King Solomon carried out work at Ezion-geber, near Elath, on the shore of the farthest sea in the land of Edom.

9:27Hiram sent in the ship men from his attendants, sailors who knew how to ply the sea, along with Solomon’s attendants.

9:28They went to Sophira, took a hundred twenty talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon.
