They Sang as One, and the Cloud Filled the House

The Ark Brought into the House

5:1All the work that Solomon made in the Lord’s house was finished. Solomon brought in the holy things of David his father—the silver, the gold, and the vessels—and put them in the treasury of the Lord’s house.

5:2Then Solomon assembled Israel’s elders and all the rulers of the tribes, the leaders of the ancestral houses of Israel’s sons, at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the Lord’s covenant from David’s city, which is Zion.

5:3All the men of Israel assembled before the king at the feast; this was the seventh month.

5:4All Israel’s elders came, and all the Levites took up the ark.

5:5They brought up the ark, the Tent of Testimony, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought it up.

5:6King Solomon and all Israel’s congregation, and those who feared, and their assembled ones, were before the ark, sacrificing calves and sheep that could neither be numbered nor reckoned because of their multitude.

5:7The priests brought the ark of the Lord’s covenant to its place, into the dabir of the house, into the Holy of Holies, beneath the cherubim’s wings.

5:8The cherubim spread out their wings over the ark’s place, and the cherubim covered the ark and its carrying poles from above.

5:9The carrying poles projected, and their ends could be seen from the holy places in front of the dabir, but they could not be seen outside. They have been there to this day.

5:10There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed at Choreb, which the Lord covenanted with Israel’s sons when they came out of the land of Egypt.

The Glory Fills the House

5:11When the priests came out of the holy places—for all the priests who were found there were sanctified, without being arranged by their courses—

5:12and all the Levitical singers belonging to the sons of Asaph, to Heman, and to Idithoun, and their sons and their brothers, clothed in fine-linen robes, with cymbals, nablai, and kinyrai, stood opposite the altar, and with them were a hundred and twenty priests sounding trumpets,

5:13there was one voice in trumpeting, singing psalms, and shouting, to give thanks and praise to the Lord. When they raised their voice with trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments, they said, “Give thanks to the Lord, for it is good, for His mercy endures forever.” The house was filled with a cloud of the Lord’s glory.

5:14The priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the Lord’s glory filled God’s house.
