Fire Came Down, and a Promise About Humbling

Fire from Heaven and the Glory of the Lord
7:1When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices, and the Lord’s glory filled the house.
7:2The priests could not enter the Lord’s house at that time, because the Lord’s glory had filled the house.
7:3All Israel’s sons saw the fire descending and the Lord’s glory upon the house. They fell face down to the earth upon the stone pavement, worshiped, and praised the Lord: “For it is good, for His mercy endures forever.”
The Sacrifices and the Feast
7:4The king and all the people were sacrificing offerings before the Lord.
7:5Solomon offered the sacrifice: twenty-two thousand calves and a hundred and twenty thousand flock animals. The king and all the people dedicated God’s house.
7:6The priests stood at their watches, and the Levites had instruments for the Lord’s songs belonging to King David, to give thanks before the Lord, “For His mercy endures forever,” with David’s hymns through their hands. The priests sounded trumpets on the trumpets opposite them, while all Israel stood.
7:7Solomon sanctified the middle of the court in the Lord’s house, for he offered the whole burnt offerings and the fat of the salvation offerings there, because the bronze altar Solomon had made was not sufficient to receive the whole burnt offerings, the manaa, and the fat portions.
7:8Solomon kept the feast at that time for seven days, with all Israel, a very great assembly, from the entrance of Aimath to Egypt’s torrent.
7:9On the eighth day he held a closing celebration, for he had celebrated the altar’s dedication as a feast for seven days.
7:10On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people to their dwellings, rejoicing and with a good heart over the good things the Lord had done for David, Solomon, and His people Israel.
The Lord Appears to Solomon a Second Time
7:11Solomon completed the Lord’s house and the king’s house. Everything Solomon desired in his soul to do in the Lord’s house and in his own house prospered.
7:12God appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, “I have heard your prayer and chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.
7:13If I shut heaven so that there is no rain, if I command the locust to devour the tree, or if I send death among My people,
7:14and My people over whom My name has been invoked feel shame, pray, seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, be propitious toward their sins, and heal their land.
7:15Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer of this place.
7:16Now I have chosen and sanctified this house for My name to be there forever. My eyes and My heart will be there all the days.
7:17As for you, if you walk before Me as David your father did, doing everything I commanded you and keeping My ordinances and judgments,
7:18then I will establish the throne of your kingdom, as I covenanted with David your father, saying, ‘A man leading in Israel will not be removed from you.’
The Warning Against Turning Away
7:19But if you turn away and abandon My ordinances and commandments that I placed before you, and go and render service to other gods and worship them,
7:20then I will remove you from the land that I gave them, and this house that I sanctified for My name I will turn away from My presence. I will make it a parable and a tale among all nations.
7:21This lofty house—everyone passing through it will be astonished and say, ‘For what reason has the Lord done this to this land and this house?’
7:22They will say, ‘Because they abandoned the Lord, their fathers’ God, who brought them out of Egypt’s land, and attached themselves to other gods, worshiped them, and served them. Therefore He brought all this calamity upon them.’”
