Nabouchodonosor Comes Up Against Judah
24:1In his days Nabouchodonosor king of Babylon came up. Joakim became his slave for three years, then turned and broke faith with him.
24:2He sent against him the lightly equipped raiders of the Chaldeans, Syria, Moab, and the Ammonites. He sent them out in Judah’s land to prevail, according to the Lord’s word which He spoke through His servants the prophets.
24:3Nevertheless, this came upon Judah because of the Lord’s anger, to remove it from His presence because of Manasseh’s sins, according to everything he had done.
24:4He also shed innocent blood and filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was unwilling to be propitiated.
24:5The rest of Joakim’s acts and everything he did—look, are these not written in the book of the chronicles of Judah’s kings?
24:6Joakim lay down with his fathers, and his son Joakim became king in his place.
24:7The king of Egypt did not again leave his land, because the king of Babylon had taken everything belonging to the king of Egypt from Egypt’s torrent to the River Euphrates.

24:8Joakim was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Nestha daughter of Ellanathan, from Jerusalem.
24:9He did what was evil in the Lord’s eyes, according to everything his father had done.
The First Deportation
24:10At that time Nabouchodonosor king of Babylon came up to Jerusalem, and the city came under siege.
24:11Nabouchodonosor king of Babylon entered the city while his servants were besieging it.
24:12Joakim king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, his servants, his mother, his rulers, and his eunuchs. The king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.
24:13He brought out from there all the treasures of the Lord’s house and the treasures of the king’s house. He cut apart all the gold vessels Solomon king of Israel had made in the Lord’s sanctuary, according to the Lord’s word.
24:14He deported Jerusalem, all the rulers, and the mighty in strength, taking ten thousand captives, and every craftsman and one who shuts up. None remained except the land’s poor.
24:15He deported Joakim to Babylon, along with the king’s mother, the king’s wives, and his eunuchs. He led the land’s powerful men into deportation from Jerusalem to Babylon,
24:16and all the men of the force, seven thousand, and the craftsmen and those who shut up, one thousand—all mighty men who waged war. The king of Babylon brought them into deportation to Babylon.
24:17The king of Babylon made Maththanias, his son, king in his place and gave him the name Sedekias.
Sedekias King of Judah
24:18Sedekias was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Amital daughter of Jeremiah.
24:19He did what was evil before the Lord, according to everything Joakim had done.
24:20For this came upon Jerusalem and Judah because of the Lord’s anger, until He cast them from His presence. Sedekias broke faith with the king of Babylon.
