Mordecai Deputy to the King
10:1The king set down taxes upon the kingdom, both on land and on sea.
10:2His strength and courage, and the wealth and glory of his kingdom—look, they are written in the book of the kings of the Persians and Medes for a remembrance.
10:3Mordecai acted as deputy to King Artaxerxes. He was great in the kingdom and honored by the Jews. Being beloved, he recounted the course of affairs to his whole nation.
Mordecai Interprets His Dream
10:3aMordecai said, “These things came from God.
10:3bFor I remembered the dream I saw concerning these matters, and not a word of them passed away.
10:3cThe small spring that became a river, and there was light and sun and much water—Esther is the river, whom the king married and made queen.
10:3dThe two dragons are Haman and I.
10:3eThe nations are those gathered together to destroy the name of the Jews.
10:3fMy nation is Israel, those who cried out to God and were saved. The Lord saved His people, and the Lord rescued us from all these evils. God performed the signs and the great wonders that had not happened among the nations.
10:3gTherefore He made two lots, one for the people of God and one for all the nations.
10:3hThese two lots came to their hour and appointed time, to a day of judgment before God and among all the nations.
10:3iGod remembered His people and vindicated His inheritance.
10:3kThese days will be theirs in the month of Adar, on the fourteenth and fifteenth of the same month, with assembly, gladness, and joy before God, through the generations forever among His people Israel.”
The Letter Brought to Egypt
10:3lIn the fourth year of the reign of Ptolemy and Cleopatra, Dositheus, who said he was a priest and a Levite, and Ptolemy his son brought in the preceding letter about Phrourai. They said it was authentic and had been translated by Lysimachus son of Ptolemy, one of those in Jerusalem.
