The Creature No One Can Withstand

41:1“Have you not seen it,
nor marveled at what is said?

41:2Have you not feared because it has been prepared for Me?
For who is the one who stood against Me?

41:3Who will stand against Me and endure,
if the whole realm beneath heaven is Mine?

41:4I will not be silent because of it;
regarding a word of power, he will pity his equal.

41:5Who will uncover the face of its clothing,
and who could enter the fold of its breastplate?

41:6Who will open the gates of its face?
Fear surrounds its teeth.

41:7Its inward parts are bronze shields,
and its fastening is like emery stone.

41:8One sticks to another,
and breath will certainly not pass through it;

41:9Each will cling to its brother;
they hold together and will certainly not be pulled apart.

41:10In its sneeze brightness shines,
and its eyes have the appearance of the dawn-bearer.

41:11Burning torches go out from its mouth,
and fire-hearths are hurled about.

41:12Smoke comes out of its nostrils,
as from a furnace burning with a coal fire.

41:13Its soul is coals,
and flame comes out of its mouth.

41:14Power lodges in its neck,
and destruction runs before it.

41:15The flesh of its body is joined together;
he pours down upon it; it will not be shaken.

41:16Its heart is fixed like stone
and stands like an unhammered anvil.

41:17When it turns, fear falls upon four-footed beasts
leaping upon the earth.

41:18If lances meet it, they will certainly accomplish nothing—
an uplifted spear and a breastplate.

41:19For it regards iron as straw
and bronze as decayed wood.

41:20A bronze bow will certainly not wound it;
it regards a stone-thrower as grass.

41:21Hammers were reckoned as stalks,
and it laughs at the shaking of a fire-bearing weapon.

41:22Its bedding is sharp spits,
and all the sea’s gold beneath it is like immeasurable mud.

41:23It boils the abyss like a bronze cauldron
and regards the sea like an ointment jar,

41:24and the Tartarus of the abyss like a captive;
it reckoned the abyss a place for walking.

41:25There is nothing upon earth like it,
made to be played with by My angels.

41:26It sees everything high,
and it is king of all things in the waters.”
