The Lord Standing upon the Altar

9:1I saw the Lord standing upon the altar. He said, “Strike the atonement cover, and the foregates will shake; cut through the heads of all. I will kill their survivors with a sword. No one fleeing from among them will escape, and no one seeking safety will be saved.

9:2If they burrow into Hades, My hand will pull them up from there; if they climb to heaven, I will bring them down from there.

9:3If they hide on Carmel’s summit, I will search them out and take them from there. If they plunge from My eyes into the sea’s depths, I will command the dragon there, and it will bite them.

9:4If they go into captivity before their enemies, I will command the sword there, and it will kill them. I will fix My eyes upon them for evils and not for good things.”

The Lord Touches the Earth and It Shakes

9:5The Lord, Lord God Almighty, touches the earth and shakes it; all who dwell in it will mourn. Its consummation will rise like a river and descend like Egypt’s river.

9:6He builds His ascent into heaven and founds His promise upon the earth; He calls for the sea’s water and pours it upon the earth’s surface. The Lord God Almighty is His name.

9:7“Are you not like the children of Ethiopians to Me, children of Israel?” says the Lord. “Did I not bring Israel up from Egypt’s land, the foreigners from Cappadocia and the Syrians from a pit?

The Lord’s Eyes upon the Kingdom of Sinners

9:8Look, the Lord God’s eyes are upon the kingdom of sinners, and I will remove it from the earth’s surface. Yet I will not completely remove Jacob’s house,” says the Lord.

9:9“For look, I am giving a command: I will winnow Israel’s house among all the nations as one winnows in a winnowing basket, and no fragment will fall to the ground.

9:10All the sinners of My people will die by a sword, those who say, ‘Evils certainly will not draw near or come upon us.’

I Will Raise David’s Fallen Tent

9:11On that day I will raise David’s fallen tent; I will rebuild its fallen parts, raise its demolished parts and rebuild it as in days of old,

9:12so that the remaining human beings and all the nations over whom My name is called may seek,” says the Lord God, who does these things.

9:13“Look, days are coming,” says the Lord, “when threshing will overtake the vintage and grapes will darken to ripeness at seedtime. The mountains will drip sweetness, and all the hills will be planted together.

9:14I will reverse the captivity of My people Israel. They will build vanished cities and inhabit them, plant vineyards and drink their wine, plant gardens and eat their fruit.

9:15I will plant them upon their land, and they will certainly never again be uprooted from the land I have given them,” says the Lord God Almighty.
