A Lament over Pharaoh
32:1In the eleventh year, in the twelfth month, on the first of the month, the Lord’s word came to me, saying,
32:2“Son of man, take up a lament over Pharaoh, Egypt’s king, and say to him, ‘You were likened to a lion of nations, and you are like the dragon in the sea. You butted in your rivers, troubled water with your feet and trampled your rivers.
I Will Throw My Nets over You
32:3Thus says the Lord: I will throw nets of many peoples over you and haul you up with My hook,
32:4and stretch you out upon the earth; plains will be filled with you. I will seat all the sky’s birds upon you and fill all the beasts of the whole earth with you.
32:5I will lay your flesh upon the mountains and fill them with your blood,
32:6and the earth will be watered from your discharges, from your multitude upon the mountains. I will fill ravines with you.
32:7When you are extinguished, I will cover heaven and darken its stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon certainly will not show its light.
32:8All the things shining light in heaven will grow dark over you, and I will put darkness upon your land, says the Lord, the Lord.
32:9I will provoke the heart of many peoples when I bring your captivity among the nations, into a land you have not known.
32:10Many nations will grow gloomy over you; their kings will be utterly astounded when My sword flies before their faces, awaiting their own fall from the day of your fall.
32:11For thus says the Lord: Babylon’s king’s sword will come upon you
32:12with giants’ swords, and I will strike down your strength. All are scourges from nations; they will destroy Egypt’s arrogance, and all her strength will be shattered.
32:13I will destroy all her livestock beside the abundant water. No human foot will ever trouble it again, nor will livestock’s tread trample it.
32:14Thus their waters will then become still, and their rivers will flow like oil, says the Lord.
32:15When I give Egypt to destruction and the land is made desolate with its fullness, when I scatter all who dwell in her, they will know that I am the Lord.
32:16It is a lament, and you will lament it, and the nations’ daughters will lament it. Over Egypt and all her strength they will lament her, says the Lord, the Lord.’”
Lament over Egypt’s Strength
32:17In the twelfth year, in the first month, on the fifteenth of the month, the Lord’s word came to me, saying,
32:18“Son of man, lament over Egypt’s strength. The nations will bring her daughters down dead into the earth’s depth, with those descending to a pit.
32:20They will fall with him among those wounded by the sword, and all his strength will lie down.
32:21The giants will say to you, ‘Be in the depth of a pit! Whom do you surpass? Descend and lie with the uncircumcised among those wounded by the sword.’
32:22There Assyria and all his assembly, all wounded, were placed. Their burial is in the depth of a pit, and his assembly was around his tomb, all the wounded who fell by the sword,
32:23who spread their fear upon the land of life.
32:24There is Elam and all his force around his tomb, all the wounded who fell by the sword and those descending uncircumcised into the earth’s depth, who spread their fear upon the land of life and received their torment with those descending to a pit,
32:25among the wounded.
32:26There were placed Mosoch and Thobel and all their strength around his tomb, all his wounded, all uncircumcised, wounded by the sword, who spread their fear upon the land of life.
32:27They lay with the giants who fell long ago, who descended to Hades with weapons of war and put their swords beneath their heads. Their lawless deeds were upon their bones, because they terrified giants in the land of life.
32:28You too will lie among the uncircumcised with those wounded by the sword.
32:29There were placed Assyria’s rulers, who gave his strength to a sword wound. These lay with the wounded, with those descending to a pit.
32:30There are the north’s rulers, all Assyria’s generals, who descended wounded. With their fear and their strength they lay uncircumcised with those wounded by the sword and carried away their torment with those descending to a pit.
32:31King Pharaoh will see them and be comforted over all their strength, says the Lord, the Lord.
32:32For I have set his fear upon the land of life, and he will lie among the uncircumcised with those wounded by the sword—Pharaoh and all his multitude—says the Lord, the Lord.”
