The Holy Portion of the Land
45:1When you measure out the land as an inheritance, you shall set apart a first portion for the Lord, a holy part of the land, twenty-five thousand long and twenty thousand broad. It shall be holy throughout all its boundaries all around.
45:2From this, a square of five hundred by five hundred shall be for a sanctuary, with an interval of fifty cubits all around it.
45:3From this measured area you shall measure a length of twenty-five thousand and a breadth of ten thousand. In it shall be the sanctuary, the most holy place.
45:4It shall be land for the priests who minister in the holy place, for those who draw near to minister to the Lord. It shall be a place for their houses, set apart for their sanctification.
45:5An area twenty-five thousand long and ten thousand broad shall belong to the Levites who minister to the house, as their possession, with cities in which to dwell.
45:6You shall give the city a possession five thousand broad and twenty-five thousand long; like the first portion of the holy areas, these shall be for the whole house of Israel.
45:7The ruler shall have land on this side and that side of the first portions of the holy areas and the city’s possession, facing the first portions of the holy areas and facing the city’s possession: the parts toward the sea, and from those toward the sea toward the east. Its length shall be like one of the portions, from the sea-facing boundaries, with the length extending to the eastern boundaries of the land.
45:8It shall be his possession in Israel. Israel’s rulers shall no longer oppress My people, and the house of Israel shall inherit the land according to their tribes.
Enough, Rulers of Israel!
45:9Thus says the Lord God: Enough, rulers of Israel! Remove injustice and suffering, and practice judgment and righteousness. Take oppression away from My people, says the Lord God.
45:10You shall have an honest balance, an honest measure, and an honest choenix.
45:11The measure and the choenix shall likewise have one capacity: the choenix a tenth of the gomor, and the measure a tenth of the gomor. They shall be equal in relation to the gomor.
45:12The standard weight shall be twenty obols. The five shekels shall be five, the ten shekels ten, and fifty shekels shall make your mina.
45:13This is the first portion you shall set apart: a sixth of the measure from the gomor of wheat, and a sixth of the oiphi from the kor of barley.
45:14The command for oil is a cotyle of oil from ten cotyles, because ten cotyles are a gomor.
45:15One sheep from every ten sheep shall be a contribution from all Israel’s families, for sacrifices, burnt offerings, and offerings for well-being, to make atonement for you, says the Lord God.
45:16All the people shall give this first portion to Israel’s ruler.
45:17Through the ruler shall come the burnt offerings, sacrifices, and libations at the festivals, new moons, and Sabbaths, and at all the festivals of the house of Israel. He shall provide the offerings for sin, the sacrifice, the burnt offerings, and the offerings for well-being to make atonement for the house of Israel.
The Cleansing of the Sanctuary
45:18Thus says the Lord God: In the first month, on the first of the month, you all shall take an unblemished calf from the cattle to make atonement for the holy place.
45:19The priest shall take some of the blood of the atonement offering and put it on the house’s doorposts, on the four corners of the sacred precinct, on the altar, and on the doorposts of the gate of the inner court.
45:20You shall do likewise in the seventh month, on the first of the month: you shall take a portion from each, and you all shall make atonement for the house.
The Passover
45:21In the first month, on the fourteenth of the month, you shall have the Passover festival; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.
45:22On that day the ruler shall provide a calf for sin on behalf of himself, the house, and all the people of the land.
45:23For the seven days of the festival, he shall provide burnt offerings to the Lord: seven calves and seven unblemished rams each day for the seven days, and a goat kid each day for sin.
45:24You shall provide an offering of a cake for each calf and a cake for each ram, with a hin of oil for each cake.
The Feast of the Seventh Month
45:25In the seventh month, on the fifteenth of the month, at the festival you shall provide the same for seven days: the offerings for sin, the burnt offerings, the grain offering, and the oil.
