The Word to Hosea Son of Beeri

1:1The word of the Lord that came to Hosea son of Beeri in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel.

1:2The beginning of the Lord’s word to Hosea. The Lord said to Hosea, “Go, take for yourself a woman of prostitution and children of prostitution, for the land will utterly prostitute itself away from following the Lord.”

1:3He went and took Gomer daughter of Debelaim; she conceived and bore him a son.

Jezreel

1:4The Lord said to him, “Call his name Jezreel, for in a little while I will avenge Jezreel’s blood upon Jehu’s house and put an end to the kingdom of Israel’s house.

1:5On that day I will shatter Israel’s bow in the Valley of Jezreel.”

Not Shown Mercy

1:6She conceived again and bore a daughter. He said to him, “Call her name Not Shown Mercy, for I will certainly no longer show mercy to Israel’s house, but I will surely set Myself against them.

1:7But I will show mercy to Judah’s sons and save them by the Lord their God. I will not save them by bow, sword, war, chariots, horses or horsemen.”

Not My People

1:8She weaned Not Shown Mercy, conceived again and bore a son.

1:9He said, “Call his name Not My People, for you are not My people, and I am not yours.”
