I Will Withdraw Until They Seek My Face

Hear These Things, Priests

5:1Hear these things, priests; pay attention, house of Israel; listen, house of the king, for the judgment is against you. You became a trap at the lookout and like a net stretched over Itabyrion,

5:2which those hunting game fixed in place. But I am your instructor.

5:3I know Ephraim, and Israel is not away from Me; for now Ephraim has prostituted himself and Israel is defiled.

5:4They did not direct their schemes toward returning to their God, for a spirit of prostitution is within them, and they did not recognize the Lord.

5:5Israel’s arrogance will be humbled before his face. Israel and Ephraim will weaken in their injustices, and Judah too will weaken with them.

5:6With sheep and calves they will go to seek the Lord, but they will certainly not find Him, because He turned away from them,

5:7because they abandoned the Lord, because foreign children were born to them. Now blight will devour them and their allotments.

Blow a Trumpet on the Hills

5:8Blow a trumpet on the hills; sound out on the heights; proclaim in the house of On! Benjamin was beside himself;

5:9Ephraim was brought to ruin in days of rebuke. Among Israel’s tribes I revealed trustworthy things.

5:10Judah’s rulers became like people moving boundaries; upon them I will pour My onrush like water.

5:11Ephraim oppressed his adversary and trampled judgment, because he began to follow worthless things.

Like Turmoil to Ephraim

5:12I am like turmoil to Ephraim and like a goad to Judah’s house.

5:13Ephraim saw his illness and Judah his pain; Ephraim went to the Assyrians and sent ambassadors to King Jarim. But he could not heal you, and pain will certainly not cease among you.

5:14For I am like a panther to Ephraim and like a lion to Judah’s house. I seize and will go away and take, and there will be no one to rescue.

5:15I will go and return to My place until they disappear; they will seek My face, and in their affliction they will rise early toward Me, saying,
