The Righteous Man Perished

57:1See how the righteous man perished, and no one considers it in his heart. Righteous men are removed, and no one understands. For the righteous man was taken from the presence of injustice.

57:2His burial will be in peace; he has been removed from the midst.

57:3“But you, come forward here, lawless sons, offspring of adulterers and a prostitute!

57:4In whom did you delight? Against whom did you open your mouth and let loose your tongue? Are you not children of destruction, lawless offspring?

Idolatry Beneath the Trees and on the Heights

57:5You who appeal to idols beneath leafy trees, slaughtering their children in ravines among the rocks!

57:6That is your portion; this is your lot. To those you poured libations, and to those you brought sacrifices. Will I not therefore be angry over these things?

57:7On a high and lofty mountain—there is your bed, and there you brought sacrifices up.

57:8Behind your doorposts you set your memorials. You thought that if you departed from Me you would have something more. You loved those sleeping with you

57:9and multiplied your prostitution with them. You made many those far away from you, sent ambassadors beyond your boundaries, turned away, and were humbled as far as Hades.

57:10You wearied yourself with your many journeys and did not say, ‘I will stop.’ You kept strengthening yourself because you did these things; therefore you did not implore Me—

57:11you! Whom did you reverently fear, that you lied to Me, did not remember Me, and took Me neither into thought nor into your heart? I see you and overlook you, yet you did not fear Me.

57:12I will proclaim My righteousness and your evils, which will not benefit you.

Let Them Rescue You When You Cry Aloud

57:13When you cry aloud, let them rescue you in your distress! Wind will take all these, and a storm carry them away. But those holding fast to Me will acquire land and inherit My holy mountain.

57:14They will say, ‘Clear roads before him, and remove obstacles from My people’s road.’

The Lord Most High Who Dwells in the Height

57:15Thus says the Lord Most High, who dwells in the heights forever, whose name is Holy among holy ones, the Lord Most High resting among holy ones and giving patience to the fainthearted and life to the brokenhearted:

57:16‘I will not take vengeance on you forever or always be angry with you. For spirit will go out from Me, and I made every breath.

57:17Because of sin I grieved him a little, struck him, and turned My face away from him. He was grieved and went gloomily along his ways.

57:18I have seen his ways, healed him, comforted him, and given him true comfort—

57:19peace upon peace to those far away and those near. And the Lord said, ‘I will heal them.’

57:20But the unjust will be tossed by waves in this way and will be unable to rest.

There Is No Rejoicing for the Ungodly

57:21‘There is no rejoicing for the ungodly,’ said the Lord God.”
