The Word That Came to Jeremiah

37:1The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:

37:2Thus said the Lord, Israel’s God: Write in a book all the words I delivered to you as oracles,

37:3because look, days are coming, says the Lord, and I will return the deportees of My people Israel and Judah, said the Lord. I will return them to the land I gave their fathers, and they will rule over it.

37:4And these are the words the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah:

A Sound of Fear Will Be Heard

37:5Thus said the Lord: You will hear a sound of fear—fear, and there is no peace.

37:6Ask and see whether a male gave birth, and about fear in which they will hold loins and salvation. For I have seen every person with his hands upon his loins; faces turned toward jaundice—

37:7so it became. For that day is great, and there is none like it; it is a narrow time for Jacob, and he will be saved from it.

37:8On that day, said the Lord, I will smash the yoke from their neck and tear apart their bonds, and they will no longer work for foreigners.

They Will Work for the Lord Their God

37:9And they will work for the Lord their God, and I will raise up David their king for them.

37:12Thus said the Lord: I raised up a fracture; your wound is painful.

Struck for Many Sins, Yet Promised Healing

37:13There is no one judging your case; you were treated into pain. There is no benefit for you.

37:14All your friends forgot you; they will certainly not inquire. For I struck you with an enemy’s blow, a firm discipline; upon all your injustice your sins multiplied.

37:16Therefore all who eat you will be eaten; as for all your enemies, they will eat all their flesh. Upon the multitude of your injustices your sins multiplied; they did these things to you. Those plundering you will become plunder, and I will give all who despoil you as spoil.

37:17Because I will bring up your cure and heal you from a painful wound, says the Lord, because you were called Scattered: She is your prey, because no one seeks her.

I Will Return Jacob’s Captivity

37:18Thus said the Lord: Look, I will return Jacob’s deportees and have mercy on his captivity. A city will be built upon its height, and the sanctuary will sit according to its judgment.

37:19And singers and the sound of people playing will come out from them. I will increase them, and they will certainly not be diminished.

37:20And their sons will enter as formerly, and their testimonies will be set upright before Me. I will visit those afflicting them.

37:21And stronger ones of his will be over them, and his ruler will come out from him. I will gather them, and they will return to Me. For who is this who gave his heart to return to Me? says the Lord.

37:23Because the Lord’s anger went out furious; swirling anger went out and will come upon the ungodly.

37:24The anger of the Lord’s fury will certainly not turn back until He acts and establishes His heart’s undertaking. At the end of the days you will know these things.
