You Are Speaking Falsely
50:1When Jeremiah stopped speaking to the people all the Lord’s words, with which the Lord had sent him to them—all these words—
50:2Azariah son of Maaseiah, Johanan son of Kareah, and all the men who spoke said to Jeremiah, You are lying! The Lord did not send you to us to say, Do not enter Egypt to live there.
50:3Rather, Baruch son of Neriah is setting you against us, so that you will hand us over to the Chaldeans, to put us to death and have us deported to Babylon.
50:4Johanan, all the commanders of the force, and all the people did not obey the Lord’s voice by remaining in Judah’s land.
50:5Johanan and all the commanders of the force took all Judah’s survivors who had returned to live in the land:
50:6the mighty men, the women, the little children, the king’s daughters, the people Nebuzaradan had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam, and Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch son of Neriah.
The Remnant at Taphnas in Egypt
50:7They entered Egypt, for they had not obeyed the Lord’s voice. They entered Taphnas.
50:8The Lord’s word came to Jeremiah at Taphnas:
The Large Stones Hidden at Tahpanhes
50:9Take large stones for yourself and hide them in the forecourt at the gate of Pharaoh’s house at Taphnas, before the eyes of Judah’s men.
50:10Say, Thus said the Lord: I am sending and will bring Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. He will place his throne above these stones that you hid and raise his weapons over them.
50:11He will enter and strike Egypt’s land: those for death, to death; those for deportation, to deportation; and those for the sword, to the sword.
50:12He will kindle fire in the houses of their gods, burn the houses, and deport the gods. He will delouse Egypt’s land as a shepherd delouses his garment, and he will go out in peace.
50:13He will shatter the pillars of the City of the Sun, those in On, and burn their houses with fire.
