An Oracle Against the Nations

9:1An oracle of the Lord’s word: in Sedrach’s land and Damascus is His sacrifice, because the Lord watches human beings and all Israel’s tribes,

9:2and Emath within its borders, Tyre and Sidon, because they were exceedingly wise.

9:3Tyre built herself fortifications, stored silver like dust and gathered gold like roads’ mud.

9:4Therefore the Lord will inherit her and strike her strength into the sea; she will be consumed by fire.

9:5Ashkelon will see and fear; Gaza will suffer greatly, and Akkaron too, because she was ashamed at her downfall. A king will perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon will certainly not be inhabited.

9:6Foreigners will dwell in Azotus, and I will bring down the foreigners’ arrogance.

9:7I will remove their blood from their mouth and their detestable things from between their teeth. This one too will remain for our God; they will be like a commander of a thousand in Judah, and Akkaron like the Jebusite.

9:8I will take a stand for My house to prevent passing through or returning. No one driving them out will come upon them again, for now I have seen with My own eyes.

Rejoice Greatly, Daughter Zion

9:9Rejoice greatly, daughter Zion! Proclaim, daughter Jerusalem! Look, your king comes to you, righteous and saving, gentle and mounted on a beast of burden and a young colt.

9:10He will destroy chariots from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem; the battle bow will be destroyed, and abundance and peace from the nations. He will rule waters as far as the sea and the earth’s river outlets.

By Covenant Blood I Released Your Prisoners

9:11You, by covenant blood, released your prisoners from a pit having no water.

9:12You will settle in a stronghold, prisoners of the gathering; in exchange for one day of your sojourn I will repay you double.

9:13For I bent you, Judah, as a bow for Myself; I filled Ephraim, and I will rouse your children, Zion, against the Greeks’ children and handle you like a fighter’s sword.

The Lord Shields and Saves His People

9:14The Lord will be over them; a missile will go out like lightning. The Lord Almighty will sound a trumpet and go in the tumult of His threat.

9:15The Lord Almighty will shield them. They will consume them, bury them with sling stones and drink them down like wine; they will fill the altar like bowls.

9:16The Lord will save them on that day, His people like sheep, because holy stones roll over His land.

9:17For whatever is good of him and whatever is beautiful from him: grain for young men and fragrant wine for virgins.
