In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee to the Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him. John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” Jesus answered him, “Allow it now, for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John allowed Him.

When all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized. Immediately He came up from the water, and as He prayed, He saw the heavens torn open and the Holy Spirit descending in bodily form like a dove upon Him. A voice came from the heavens: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
