Simon Peter asked, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “Where I go, you cannot follow Me now, but you will follow later.” Peter said, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for You.” Jesus told them, “All of you will stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.”
He said, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you all, to sift you like wheat. But I prayed for you, that your faith might not fail; and you, once you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” Peter answered, “Even if everyone stumbles because of You, I will never stumble. Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death.” Jesus said, “Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly I tell you, today, this very night, before a rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you know Me.” Peter insisted, “Even if I must die with You, I will certainly not deny You.” All the disciples said likewise.
And He said to them, “When I sent you without purse and bag and sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” And He said to them, “But now let the one who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag; and let the one who does not have sell his garment and buy a sword. For I tell you that this which is written must be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was counted with the lawless.’ For what concerns Me is reaching its completion.” They said, “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”
