Having risen early on the first day of the week, Jesus appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons.
But Mary was standing outside beside the tomb, weeping. So, as she wept, she stooped to look into the tomb, and beholds two angels in white, sitting one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. And they say to her, “Woman, why do you weep?” She says to them, “They took my Lord, and I do not know where they laid Him.” Having said these things, she turned backward and beholds Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus says to her, “Woman, why do you weep? Whom do you seek?” She, supposing that He is the gardener, says to Him, “Sir, if You carried Him away, tell me where You laid Him, and I will take Him away.” Jesus says to her, “Mary.” Turning, she says to Him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!”—which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to My brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’”
Mary Magdalene comes, announcing to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and that He said these things to her.
She reported to those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. When they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they disbelieved.
