Jesus left there and came to His hometown, and His disciples followed Him. On the Sabbath He taught in their synagogue. Many who heard were astonished: “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is He not the carpenter, the craftsman’s son? Is His mother not called Mary? Are His brothers not James, Joseph—also called Joses—Simon, and Judas? Are not all His sisters here with us?” They took offense at Him.

Jesus said, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own house.” Because of their unbelief He did not do many mighty works there; He could do no mighty work except to lay His hands on a few sick people and heal them. He marveled at their unbelief and went around the surrounding villages, teaching.
