Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the Light of the world. The one who follows Me will certainly not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” So the Pharisees said to Him, “You bear witness concerning Yourself; Your testimony is not true.” Jesus answered them, “Even if I bear witness concerning Myself, My testimony is true, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you do not know where I come from or where I am going. You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. But even if I judge, My judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent Me. And in your own Law it is written that the testimony of two people is true. I am the One who bears witness concerning Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness concerning Me.” So they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you knew Me, you would also know My Father.”

He spoke these words at the treasury as He taught in the temple, and no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come. So He said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek Me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come.” So the Jews said, “Will He kill Himself, since He says, ‘Where I go, you cannot come’?” And He said to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are from this world; I am not from this world. Therefore I told you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins.” So they said to Him, “Who are You?” Jesus said to them, “Why do I even speak to you at all? I have many things to speak and judge concerning you. But the One who sent Me is true, and what I heard from Him, these things I speak to the world.” They did not understand that He was speaking to them about the Father.

So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am, and that I do nothing from Myself, but speak these things just as the Father taught Me. And the One who sent Me is with Me. He has not left Me alone, because I always do the things pleasing to Him.” As He spoke these things, many believed in Him.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you remain in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s offspring and have never been slaves to anyone. How do You say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Amen, amen, I tell you: everyone who does sin is a slave of sin. But the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will truly be free. I know that you are Abraham’s offspring. Yet you seek to kill Me, because My word has no room in you. I speak what I have seen with the Father, and you therefore do what you have heard from the father.” They answered Him, “Our father is Abraham.” Jesus said to them, “If you are Abraham’s children, you would be doing Abraham’s works. But now you seek to kill Me, a man who has spoken to you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. You do the works of your father.”

They said to Him, “We were not born from sexual immorality. We have one Father, God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I came out from God and have come here. For I have not come from Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech? Because you cannot hear My word. You are from your father, the devil, and you want to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks from what is his own, because he is a liar and its father. But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me concerning sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? The one who is from God hears the words of God. For this reason you do not hear, because you are not from God.” The Jews answered Him, “Do we not rightly say that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?”

Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. But I do not seek My own glory. There is One who seeks it and judges. Amen, amen, I tell you: if anyone keeps My word, he will certainly never behold death.” The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets also, and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word, he will certainly never taste death.’ Are You greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets also died. Whom do You make Yourself?” Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing. It is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’ Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say that I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you. But I know Him and keep His word. Abraham your father rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”

Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I tell you: before Abraham came into being, I am.” So they took up stones to cast at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple.
