At that very time some people were present who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. And He answered them, “Do you think these Galileans were greater sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered these things? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them—do you think they were greater debtors than all the people living in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.” And He told this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard. He came looking for fruit on it and found none. So he said to the vineyard worker, ‘Behold, for three years I have been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and have found none. Cut it down! Why should it also render the ground unproductive?’ But he answered him, ‘Master, leave it this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. And if it produces fruit in the coming year—but if not, you shall cut it down.’”
