Proverbs 14

There Is a Way That Seems Right to a Man

14:1Wise women built houses,
but the foolish woman tore them down with her hands.

14:2One who walks uprightly fears the Lord,
but one who is crooked in his ways will be dishonored.

14:3From the mouth of fools comes a staff of insolence,
but the lips of the wise guard them.

14:4Where there are no oxen, mangers are clean;
but where there is much produce, an ox’s strength is evident.

14:5A faithful witness does not lie,
but an unjust witness kindles lies.

14:6You will seek wisdom among evil people and not find it,
but discernment is readily found among intelligent people.

14:7Everything is against a foolish man,
but wise lips are weapons of discernment.

14:8The wisdom of resourceful people will recognize their ways,
but the senselessness of fools is in wandering.

14:9The houses of lawless people will owe purification,
but the houses of the righteous are acceptable.

14:10A man’s heart is perceptive; his life is sorrowful,
but when he rejoices, he does not mingle with insolence.

14:11The houses of the impious will disappear,
but the tents of those who act rightly will stand.

14:12There is a way that seems upright to people,
but its final outcome comes to the bottom of Hades.

14:13In gladness sorrow does not mingle,
but in the end joy comes to mourning.

14:14One rash in heart will be filled from his own ways,
but a good man from his own thoughts.

14:15The innocent person believes every word,
but the resourceful comes to reconsideration.

14:16The wise, becoming afraid, turned from evil,
but the fool, trusting himself, mixes with a lawless person.

14:17One quick to anger acts without counsel,
but an intelligent man endures many things.

14:18Fools will receive a share of wickedness,
but the resourceful will lay hold of discernment.

14:19Evil people will slip before good people,
and the impious will attend the doors of the righteous.

14:20Friends will hate poor friends,
but the friends of the rich are many.

14:21One who dishonors the needy sins,
but one who has mercy on the poor is blessed.

14:22Those who wander devise evil things,
but good people devise mercy and truth.
Makers of evils do not know mercy and faithfulness,
but acts of mercy and faithfulness are with good makers.

14:23In everyone who takes care there is abundance,
but the pleasure-loving and unfeeling person will be in want.

14:24A resourceful person is the crown of the wise,
but the occupation of fools is evil.

14:25A faithful witness will rescue a life from evils,
but a deceitful person kindles lies.

14:26In the fear of the Lord is hope of strength,
and he leaves a support for his children.

14:27The command of the Lord is a fountain of life,
and it causes one to turn from a trap of death.

14:28In a numerous nation is a king’s glory,
but in the failing of a people is a ruler’s ruin.

14:29A patient man is great in understanding,
but one faint of spirit is exceedingly foolish.

14:30A gentle-tempered man is a physician of the heart,
but a perceptive heart is a moth to the bones.

14:31One who extorts from the needy provokes the One who made him,
but one who honors Him has mercy on the poor.

14:32The impious will be thrust away in his wickedness,
but one trusting in his own piety is righteous.

14:33Wisdom is in a man’s good heart,
but in the heart of fools it is not discerned.

14:34Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sins diminish tribes.

14:35An intelligent attendant is acceptable to a king,
and by his own dexterity he removes dishonor.
