142:1A psalm of David, when his son pursues him.

Lord, hear my prayer; give ear to my plea in Your truth.

Answer me in Your righteousness.

142:2Do not enter into judgment with Your servant,

for no one living will be justified before You.

142:3For the enemy pursued my soul,

brought my life low to the ground,

made me sit in dark places like those long dead.

142:4My spirit grew despondent within me;

within me my heart was troubled.

142:5I remembered ancient days

and meditated on all Your works;

I pondered the works of Your hands.

142:6I spread out my hands to You;

my soul is like a waterless land for You. Diapsalma.

142:7Quickly hear me, Lord; my spirit is spent.

Do not turn Your face away from me,

or I shall become like those descending to the pit.

142:8Make Your mercy heard by me in the morning, for I hoped in You.

Make known to me, Lord, the way I shall walk,

for to You I lifted my soul.

142:9Take me out from my enemies, Lord,

for I fled to You for refuge.

142:10Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God.

Your good Spirit will lead me on level ground.

142:11For Your name’s sake, Lord, You will give me life;

in Your righteousness You will bring my soul out of distress.

142:12In Your mercy You will utterly destroy my enemies

and destroy all who distress my soul,

for I am Your servant.
