I Was the Least Among My Brothers, and He Anointed Me

151:1This psalm is personally written concerning David and is outside the number, when he fought Goliath in single combat.

I was small among my brothers

and younger in my father’s house;

I shepherded my father’s sheep.

151:2My hands made an instrument;

my fingers fitted a psaltery.

151:3And who will report to my Lord?

He Himself is Lord; He Himself hears.

151:4He Himself sent out His angel

and took me from my father’s sheep

and anointed me with the oil of His anointing.

151:5My brothers were handsome and tall,

but the Lord took no pleasure in them.

151:6I went out to meet the foreigner,

and he cursed me by his idols.

151:7But I drew the sword he carried,

cut off his head,

and removed reproach from the sons of Israel.
