I Sought Him Whom My Soul Loves and Did Not Find Him
← Song of Songs 2 · Song of Songs: all chapters · Song of Songs 4 →
3:1On my bed at night I sought the one my soul loved; I sought him but did not find him. I called him, but he did not answer me.
3:2I will rise now and go around the city, through the marketplaces and squares, and seek the one my soul loved. I sought him but did not find him.
3:3The watchmen going around the city found me. Have you perhaps seen the one my soul loved?
3:4Scarcely had I passed them when I found the one my soul loved. I held him and will not let him go until I have brought him into my mother’s house, into the chamber of the one who conceived me.
3:5I adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem, by the powers and by the strengths of the field: do not awaken or stir up love until it wishes.
3:6Who is this coming up from the wilderness like columns of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with every powder of the perfumer?
3:7Look, Solomon’s couch! Sixty mighty men surround it, from the mighty men of Israel,
3:8all holding a sword, taught warfare, each with his sword upon his thigh, against terror in the night.
3:9King Solomon made himself a carrying chair from the timber of Lebanon.
3:10He made its pillars silver and its reclining support gold; its step was purple, its interior paved with stone—love from the daughters of Jerusalem.
3:11Go out and look at King Solomon wearing the crown with which his mother crowned him on his wedding day, on the day his heart rejoiced.
