Imitators of Christ
11:1Become imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.
11:2Now I praise you because you remember me in all things and hold fast to the traditions just as I handed them over to you.
Head Coverings
11:3But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.
11:4Every man who prays or prophesies with something covering his head dishonors his head.
11:5But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for it is one and the same as being shaven.
11:6For if a woman does not cover herself, let her also cut off her hair. But if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaven, let her cover herself.
11:7For a man ought not to cover his head, being God’s image and glory; but the woman is the man’s glory.
11:8For man is not from woman, but woman from man;
11:9for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake.
11:10For this reason the woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels.
11:11Nevertheless, in the Lord neither is woman without man nor man without woman.
11:12For just as woman is from man, so also man is through woman; but all things are from God.
11:13Judge among yourselves: is it fitting for a woman to pray to God uncovered?
11:14Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a dishonor to him,
11:15but if a woman wears long hair it is a glory to her? For the hair has been given as a covering.
11:16But if anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the Churches of God.
Divisions at the Lord’s Supper
11:17But in giving this instruction I do not praise you, because you come together for the worse rather than for the better.
11:18For first, when you come together as a Church, I hear that divisions exist among you, and I believe it in part.
11:19For there must even be factions among you so that those who are approved may become manifest among you.
11:20Therefore, when you gather in the same place, it is not to eat the Lord’s supper,
11:21for in eating, each takes his own supper beforehand, and one is hungry while another is drunk.
11:22Do you not have houses for eating and drinking? Or do you despise God’s Church and shame those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? In this I do not praise you.
The Tradition of the Lord’s Supper
11:23For I received from the Lord what I also handed over to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night when He was being handed over, took bread,
11:24and after giving thanks He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.”
11:25Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink, in remembrance of Me.”
11:26For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Examine Yourselves
11:27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the Lord’s cup unworthily will be answerable for the Lord’s body and blood.
11:28Let a person examine himself, and in this way let him eat from the bread and drink from the cup.
11:29For the one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself.
11:30For this reason many among you are weak and ill, and a considerable number are asleep.
11:31But if we discerned ourselves, we would not be judged.
11:32Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined, so that we may not be condemned with the world.
Wait for One Another
11:33Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
11:34If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you may not come together for judgment. I will arrange the remaining matters when I come.
