Spiritual Things

12:1Now concerning spiritual things, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.

12:2You know that when you were Gentiles, you were carried away to the mute idols, however you were led.

12:3Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking in God’s Spirit says, “Jesus is accursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except in the Holy Spirit.

Varieties of Gifts, One Spirit

12:4There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;

12:5and there are varieties of service, and the same Lord;

12:6and there are varieties of workings, but the same God, who works all things in everyone.

12:7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common benefit.

12:8For to one a word of wisdom is given through the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;

12:9to another faith in the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healings in the one Spirit;

12:10to another workings of power, to another prophecy, to another discernments of spirits, to another kinds of tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues.

12:11But the one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each individually just as He wills.

One Body, Many Members

12:12For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the body’s members, though many, are one body, so also is Christ.

12:13For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.

12:14For the body is not one member but many.

12:15If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not part of the body,” it does not thereby cease to be part of the body, does it?

12:16And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not part of the body,” it does not thereby cease to be part of the body.

12:17If the whole body were an eye, where would hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?

12:18But as it is, God placed the members, each one of them, in the body just as He wished.

12:19If they were all one member, where would the body be?

12:20But as it is, there are many members, yet one body.

12:21The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

12:22On the contrary, the members of the body that seem weaker are much more necessary,

12:23and those parts of the body we consider less honorable, we clothe with greater honor; and our unpresentable parts receive greater modesty,

12:24while our presentable parts have no need of it. But God combined the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it,

12:25so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.

12:26If one member suffers, all the members suffer together; if a member is honored, all the members rejoice together.

You Are Christ’s Body

12:27Now you are Christ’s body, and individually members of it.

12:28God has appointed in the Church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then works of power, then gifts of healings, helps, forms of guidance, and kinds of tongues.

12:29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all perform works of power?

12:30Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?

12:31But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a way beyond all comparison.
