Shepherd the Flock of God
5:1Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a participant in the glory about to be revealed:
5:2Shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, according to God; not for shameful gain but eagerly;
5:3not as lording it over those allotted to you, but becoming examples to the flock.
5:4And when the Chief Shepherd is manifested, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
Humility and Watchfulness
5:5Likewise, you who are younger, submit yourselves to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
5:6Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time,
5:7casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.
5:8Be sober; be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
5:9Resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same kinds of sufferings are being experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
5:10And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore, establish, strengthen, and firmly ground you.
5:11To Him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Through Silvanus, a Faithful Brother
5:12Through Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand in it.
5:13She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, greets you, and so does Mark, my son.
5:14Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
