Greeting

1:1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, to the saints who are [in Ephesus] and faithful in Christ Jesus:

1:2grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Spiritual Blessings in Christ

1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

1:4just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, so that we should be holy and without blemish before Him in love,

1:5having predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

1:6to the praise of the glory of His grace, with which He favored us in the Beloved.

1:7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of transgressions, according to the riches of His grace,

1:8which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and understanding,

1:9having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Him,

1:10for an administration of the fullness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth. In Him,

1:11in whom we also were allotted an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of the One who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

1:12so that we who had hoped beforehand in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

1:13In Him you also, having heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and having believed in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,

1:14who is the pledge of our inheritance, toward the redemption of the possession, to the praise of His glory.

Prayer for Wisdom and Revelation

1:15For this reason I too, having heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints,

1:16do not cease giving thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers,

1:17so that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

1:18with the eyes of your heart enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance among the saints,

1:19and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of the might of His strength,

1:20which He exercised in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

1:21far above every rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

1:22And He subjected all things under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the Church,

1:23which is His body, the fullness of the One who fills all things in all.
