David Takes Counsel to Bring the Ark

13:1David took counsel with the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, every leader.

13:2David said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and is prospered by the Lord our God, let us send to our brothers who remain throughout Israel’s land, and with them the priests, the Levites, in their possession towns, and they shall gather to us.

13:3Let us transfer our God’s ark to us, for they have not sought it since Saul’s days.”

13:4The whole assembly agreed to do so, for the matter was right in the eyes of all the people.

The Ark Brought Up from Kariathiarim

13:5David assembled all Israel from Egypt’s borders to the entrance of Emath, to bring God’s ark from the city of Jarim.

13:6David brought it up, and all Israel went up to the City of David, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, enthroned upon cherubim, where His name was invoked.

13:7They placed God’s ark on a new cart from Amminadab’s house; Oza and his brothers were leading the cart.

13:8David and all Israel were playing before God with all their strength, with psalm singers, lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.

The Striking of Oza

13:9They came to the threshing floor. Oza stretched out his hand to hold the ark, for the calf tipped it.

13:10The Lord was angered with wrath against Oza and struck him there for stretching out his hand upon the ark. He died there before God.

13:11David was disheartened because the Lord had cut a cutting against Oza. He called that place the Cutting of Oza, to this day.

13:12David feared God that day, saying, “How shall I bring God’s ark to myself?”

The Ark in the House of Abeddara

13:13David did not turn the ark toward himself in the City of David; he turned it aside to the house of Abeddara the Geththite.

13:14God’s ark stayed in Abeddara’s house three months. God blessed Abeddaram and everything that was his.
