The Ark Set in the Tent
16:1They brought God’s ark and set it firmly in the middle of the tent David had pitched for it; they presented whole burnt offerings and offerings of deliverance before God.
16:2David finished presenting whole burnt offerings and offerings of deliverance, and blessed the people in the Lord’s name.
16:3He distributed to every Israelite, man and woman alike, to each one baker’s loaf and a cake.
The Ministers Appointed Before the Ark
16:4He appointed some Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord’s covenant, to sound out, give thanks, and praise the Lord, Israel’s God:
16:5Asaph the leader, Zacharias second to him, Jiiel, Semiramoth, Jiiel, Mattathias, Eliab, Banaias, Abdedom, and Jiiel, with instruments, harps, and lyres; Asaph sounded the cymbals.
16:6Banaias and Oziel the priests sounded trumpets continually before the ark of God’s covenant.
The Song of Thanksgiving
16:7On that day David first appointed praise of the Lord through Asaph and his brothers:
16:8Give thanks to the Lord; call upon Him by His name; make His works known among peoples.
16:9Sing to Him and hymn Him; recount to everyone His wonders, which the Lord has done.
16:10Praise in His holy name; the heart seeking His good pleasure shall rejoice.
16:11Seek the Lord and be strengthened; seek His face continually.
16:12Remember His wonders which He has done, portents and judgments of His mouth,
16:13you offspring of Israel, His servants, sons of Jacob His chosen ones.
16:14He is the Lord our God; His judgments are throughout all the earth.
He Remembers His Covenant Forever
16:15He remembers His covenant forever, His word which He commanded for a thousand generations,
16:16which He established with Abraham, and His oath to Isaac.
16:17He established it for Jacob as an ordinance, for Israel as an everlasting covenant,
16:18saying, “To you I will give Canaan’s land, the measured allotment of your inheritance,”
16:19when they became few in number, as they were made small and dwelt as strangers in it.
16:20They traveled from nation to nation, from a kingdom to another people.
16:21He allowed no man to overpower them and reproved kings on their account:
16:22“Do not touch My anointed ones, and do not act wickedly against My prophets.”
Sing to the Lord, All the Earth
16:23Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim His salvation from day to day.
16:25For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is fearsome above all the gods.
16:26For all the nations’ gods are idols, but our God made heaven.
16:27Glory and praise are before Him; strength and boasting are in His place.
16:28Give to the Lord, ancestral families of the nations; give to the Lord glory and strength.
16:29Give to the Lord the glory of His name; take gifts and bring them before Him, and bow before the Lord in His holy courts.
16:30Let all the earth fear before Him; let the earth be set right and not be shaken.
16:31Let heaven be glad and the earth exult; let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!”
16:32The sea shall resound with its fullness, and the tree of the field and everything in it.
16:33Then the trees of the forest shall be glad before the Lord, for He has come to judge the earth.
For His Mercy Endures Forever
16:34Give thanks to the Lord, for it is good, for His mercy endures forever.
16:35Say, “Save us, God of our salvation, and rescue us from the nations, that we may praise Your holy name and boast in Your praises.”
16:36Blessed be the Lord, Israel’s God, from age to age! All the people shall say, “Amen.” And they praised the Lord.
The Service Left at Jerusalem and Gabaon
16:37They left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the Lord’s covenant to minister continually before the ark, each day’s duty on its day,
16:38with Abdedom and his brothers, sixty-eight; Abdedom son of Idithon and Ossa were gatekeepers.
16:39They left Sadok the priest and his brother priests before the Lord’s tent at Bama in Gabaon,
16:40to present whole burnt offerings to the Lord continually on the altar of whole burnt offerings, morning and evening, according to everything written in the Lord’s law, all He commanded Israel’s sons through Moses, God’s attendant;
16:41With him were Aiman, Idithon, and the remaining men chosen by name, to praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever.
16:42With them were trumpets and cymbals for sounding out, and instruments for God’s songs; Idithon’s sons were at the gate.
16:43All the people went, each to his house, and David returned to bless his household.
