The Pattern Put in Writing by the Hand of the Lord

David Assembles the Rulers of Israel
28:1David assembled in Jerusalem all Israel’s rulers: the rulers of the judges, the rulers of the service courses attending the king’s person, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, the treasury keepers, those over his possessions, the powerful men, and the army’s warriors.
28:2David stood in the midst of the assembly and said, “Hear me, brothers and my people. It came upon my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the Lord’s covenant and a standing place for our Lord’s feet, and I prepared the things suitable for the dwelling.
28:3But God said, ‘You shall not build Me a house to have My name called upon it, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.’
28:4The Lord, the God of Israel, chose me from all my father’s house to be king over Israel forever. He chose the royal power in Judah, and from Judah’s house my father’s house, and among my father’s sons He was willing that I become king over all Israel.
28:5From all my sons—for the Lord gave me many sons—He chose Solomon my son to seat him upon the throne of the Lord’s kingdom over Israel.
28:6God said to me, ‘Solomon your son will build My house and My court, for I have chosen him to be My son, and I will be a Father to him,
28:7and I will set his kingdom upright forever, if he remains strong to observe My commandments and My judgments, as on this day.’
28:8Now, before the whole assembly of the Lord and in the ears of our God, observe and seek all the commandments of the Lord our God, so that you may inherit the good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your sons after you forever.
Know the God of Your Fathers
28:9Now, Solomon my son, know the God of your fathers and serve Him with a complete heart and a willing soul, for the Lord examines every heart and knows every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you abandon Him, He will abandon you utterly.
28:10See, therefore, that the Lord has chosen you to build Him a house as a sanctuary. Be strong and act.”
The Pattern of the House Given to Solomon
28:11David gave Solomon his son the pattern of the temple, its houses, its zakcho, its upper rooms, its inner storerooms, and the house of propitiation;
28:12and the pattern he had in his spirit: the courts of the Lord’s house, all the surrounding chambers for the storerooms of the Lord’s house, and the storerooms of the holy things;
28:13and the lodgings of the priests’ and Levites’ service courses for all the work of ministry in the Lord’s house, and the storerooms of the service vessels for worship in the Lord’s house.
28:14He gave the measure of their weight, both the gold and the silver ones;
28:15he gave him the weight of the lampstands and of the lamps.
28:16Likewise he gave him the weight of the tables of presentation, each golden table, and likewise of the silver ones;
28:17and of the meat hooks, libation vessels, and golden bowls, and the weight of the gold and silver ones, kephphoure of each weight.
28:18He showed him the weight of the incense altar of tested gold, and the pattern of the chariot of the cherubim with outspread wings, overshadowing the ark of the Lord’s covenant.
28:19David gave Solomon everything in writing from the Lord’s hand, according to the understanding that had come to him about carrying out the pattern.
Be Strong and Act Courageously
28:20David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong, act courageously, and act. Do not fear or be terrified, for the Lord my God is with you. He will not let you go or abandon you until you finish all the work of ministry in the Lord’s house.
28:21Look, the service courses of the priests and Levites are ready for all ministry in God’s house, and are with you in every undertaking, together with everyone eager and wise in every craft. The rulers and all the people are ready for all your words.”
