The Twelve Monthly Divisions

27:1The sons of Israel according to their number, the ancestral rulers, commanders of thousands and hundreds, and scribes ministered to the people and attended to every word of the king according to divisions, in every matter of coming in and going out month by month throughout all the months of the year. Each division had twenty-four thousand.

27:2Over the first division, for the first month, was Jesboam son of Zabdiel. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:3He was of Phares’s sons, ruler of all the commanders of the force for the first month.

27:4Over the division of the second month was Dodia the Echochi. His division had twenty-four thousand, commanders of the force.

27:5The third, for the third month, was Banaias son of Jodae, the priest, the ruler. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:6This Banaias was mightier than the thirty and over the thirty. His son Amizabath was over his division.

27:7The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asael, Joab’s brother, and his son Zabdias and the brothers. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:8The fifth, for the fifth month, was the leader Samaoth the Jesrae. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:9The sixth, for the sixth month, was Odouias son of Ekkes the Thekoite. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:10The seventh, for the seventh month, was Chelles from Phallous, of Ephraim’s sons. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:11The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sobochai the Isathi, belonging to the Zarai. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:12The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer from Anathoth, from Benjamin’s land. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:13The tenth, for the tenth month, was Meera from Netouphat, belonging to the Zarai. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:14The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Banaias from Pharathon, of Ephraim’s sons. His division had twenty-four thousand.

27:15The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Choldai the Netophati, belonging to Gothoniel. His division had twenty-four thousand.

The Rulers of Israel’s Tribes

27:16Over Israel’s tribes: for Reuben, Eliezer son of Zechri was leader; for Simeon, Saphatias son of Maacha;

27:17for Levi, Asabias son of Kamouel; for Aaron, Sadok;

27:18for Judah, Eliab, one of David’s brothers; for Issachar, Ambri son of Michael;

27:19for Zaboulon, Samaias son of Abdiou; for Nephthali, Jerimoth son of Esriel;

27:20for Ephraim, Ose son of Oziou; for half the tribe of Manasseh, Joel son of Phadaia;

27:21for half the tribe of Manasseh in Galaad, Jaddai son of Zabdiou; for Benjamin’s sons, Asiel son of Abenner;

27:22For Dan, Azarael son of Joram. These were the ancestral heads of Israel’s tribes.

The Numbering Left Unfinished

27:23David did not take their number from twenty years old and downward, because the Lord had said He would multiply Israel like the stars of heaven.

27:24Joab son of Sarouia began numbering among the people but did not finish. In these matters wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not registered in the book of King David’s daily records.

The Overseers of the King’s Property

27:25Over the king’s treasuries was Asmoth son of Odiel. Over the storehouses in the countryside, villages, settlements, and towers was Jonathan son of Oziou.

27:26Over the workers farming the land was Esdri son of Choloub.

27:27Over the estates was Semei from Rama. Over the wine stores in the estates was Zachri son of Sephni.

27:28Over the olive groves and sycamores in the plain was Balanas the Gedorite. Over the oil stores was Joas.

27:29Over the grazing cattle in Asidon was Satrais the Sharonite. Over the cattle in the valleys was Sophat son of Adli.

27:30Over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite. Over the donkeys was Jadias from Merathon.

27:31Over the sheep was Jaziz the Agarite. All these were overseers of King David’s possessions.

The King’s Counselors

27:32Jonathan, David’s paternal uncle, was a counselor, an understanding man and a scribe. Jiiel son of Achamani was with the king’s sons.

27:33Achitophel was the king’s counselor, and Chousi was the king’s first friend.

27:34After this man, Achitophel; next was Jodae son of Banaiou and Abiathar, and Joab was the king’s chief commander.
