The Sons of Levi
6:1Levi’s sons: Gedson, Kaath, and Merari.
6:2These are the names of Gedson’s sons: Lobeni and Semei.
6:3Kaath’s sons: Ambram, Issaar, Hebron, and Oziel.
6:4Merari’s sons: Mooli and Omousi. These were Levi’s ancestral families according to their ancestral families:
The Generations of Levi’s Three Houses
6:5For Gedson: for Lobeni his son, Jeeth his son, Zemma his son,
6:6Joach his son, Addi his son, Zara his son, Jethri his son.
6:7Kaath’s sons: Amminadab his son, Kore his son, Asir his son,
6:8Elkanah his son, Abiasaph his son, Asir his son,
6:9Thaath his son, Uriel his son, Ozia his son, Saul his son.
6:10Elkanah’s sons: Amasi and Achimoth,
6:11Elkanah his son, Souphi his son, and Naath his son,
6:12Eliab his son, Jidaer his son, Elkanah his son.
6:13Samuel’s sons: the firstborn, Sani, and Abia.
6:14Merari’s sons: Mooli; Lobeni his son, Semei his son, Oza his son,
6:15Somea his son, Aggia his son, Asaia his son.
The Singers David Appointed
6:16These are those David appointed over the work of the singers in the Lord’s house when the ark came to rest,
6:17and they ministered with instruments before the tent of the house of testimony until Solomon built the Lord’s house in Jerusalem. They took their places for their ministries according to their prescribed order.
6:18These are those who took their places, with their sons, from Kaath’s sons: Heman the psalm singer, son of Joel son of Samuel,
6:19son of Elkanah son of Edad son of Eliel son of Thie,
6:20son of Souph son of Elkanah son of Meth son of Amasias,
6:21son of Elkanah son of Joel son of Azariah son of Saphania,
6:22son of Thaath son of Asir son of Abiasaph son of Kore,
6:23son of Issaar son of Kaath son of Levi son of Israel.
6:24His brother Asaph stood at his right: Asaph son of Barachia son of Samaa,
6:25son of Michael son of Maasia son of Melchia,
6:26son of Athani son of Zarai son of Adia,
6:27son of Ethan son of Zamma son of Semei,
6:28son of Hecha son of Gedson son of Levi.
6:29The sons of Merari their brother were on the left: Ethan son of Kisai son of Abdi son of Maloch,
6:30son of Asebi son of Amessia son of Chelkios,
6:31son of Amasai son of Bani son of Semmer,
6:32son of Mooli son of Mousi son of Merari son of Levi.
The Service of Aaron and His Sons
6:33Their brothers, according to their ancestral houses, the Levites, were assigned to all the work of ministry of the tent of God’s house.
6:34Aaron and his sons burned incense on the altar of whole burnt offerings and on the incense altar, for all the work of the Holy of Holies and to make atonement for Israel, according to everything Moses, God’s servant, commanded.
6:35These were Aaron’s sons: Eleazar his son, Phinees his son, Abisou his son,
6:36Bokai his son, Ozi his son, Zaraia his son,
6:37Mariel his son, Amariah his son, Achitob his son,
6:38Sadok his son, Achimaas his son.
The Dwelling Places of the Levites
6:39These were their dwelling places in their villages within their boundaries, for Aaron’s sons of the Kaathi ancestral family, for the lot fell to them.
6:40They gave them Hebron in Judah’s land and its surrounding lands all around it.
6:41They gave the city’s plains and its villages to Caleb son of Jephonne.
6:42To Aaron’s sons they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron, Lobna and its surrounding lands, Selna and its surrounding lands, and Esthamo and its surrounding lands,
6:43Jeththar and its surrounding lands, Dabir and its surrounding lands,
6:44Asan and its surrounding lands, Attan and its surrounding lands, Basamys and its surrounding lands,
6:45and from Benjamin’s tribe, Gabee and its surrounding lands, Galemeth and its surrounding lands, Anchoch and its surrounding lands. All their cities were thirteen cities according to their ancestral families.
The Lots for the Levitical Families
6:46For Kaath’s remaining sons, from the ancestral families, from the tribe, from half Manasseh’s tribe, there were ten cities by lot.
6:47For Gedson’s sons according to their ancestral families, from Issachar’s tribe, Asher’s tribe, Naphtali’s tribe, and Manasseh’s tribe in Basan, there were thirteen cities.
6:48For Merari’s sons according to their ancestral families, from Reuben’s tribe, Gad’s tribe, and Zebulun’s tribe, there were twelve cities by lot.
6:49Israel’s sons gave the Levites the cities and their surrounding lands,
6:50and they gave by lot, from the tribe of Judah’s sons and the tribe of Simeon’s sons, these cities which he called by name.
The Cities of Kaath
6:51Some of the ancestral families of Kaath’s sons had the cities of their boundaries from Ephraim’s tribe.
6:52They gave him the cities of refuge: Sychem and its surrounding lands in Mount Ephraim, and Gazer and its surrounding lands,
6:53Jekmaam and its surrounding lands, Baithoron and its surrounding lands,
6:54Eglam and its surrounding lands, Gethremmon and its surrounding lands,
6:55and from half Manasseh’s tribe, Anar and its surrounding lands, Jeblaam and its surrounding lands, according to the ancestral family of Kaath’s remaining sons.
The Cities of Gedson
6:56For Gedson’s sons, from the ancestral families of half Manasseh’s tribe: Golan in Basan and its surrounding lands, Aseroth and its surrounding lands,
6:57and from Issachar’s tribe, Kedes and its surrounding lands, Deberi and its surrounding lands,
6:58Dabor and its surrounding lands, Anam and its surrounding lands,
6:59and from Asher’s tribe, Masal and its surrounding lands, Abaran and its surrounding lands,
6:60Ikak and its surrounding lands, Roob and its surrounding lands,
6:61and from Naphtali’s tribe, Kedes in Galilee and its surrounding lands, Chamoth and its surrounding lands, Kariathaim and its surrounding lands.
The Cities of Merari
6:62For Merari’s remaining sons, from Zebulun’s tribe: Remmon and its surrounding lands, Thachchia and its surrounding lands,
6:63and beyond the Jordan at Jericho, west of the Jordan, from Reuben’s tribe: Bosor in the wilderness and its surrounding lands, Jasa and its surrounding lands,
6:64Kademoth and its surrounding lands, Mophaath and its surrounding lands,
6:65and from Gad’s tribe, Ramoth Galaad and its surrounding lands, Maanaim and its surrounding lands,
6:66Esebon and its surrounding lands, Jazer and its surrounding lands.
