Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:5] ‘Since the day I brought My people up from Egypt’s land, I chose no city from all Israel’s tribes in which to build a house for My name to be there, and I chose no man to be leader over My people Israel.

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:6] But I chose Jerusalem for My name to be there, and I chose David to be over My people Israel.’

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:10] The Lord has established the word He spoke. I have come to be in place of David my father and sat on Israel’s throne, as the Lord spoke, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord, Israel’s God.

[LXX 6:13] For Solomon had made a bronze base and put it in the middle of the temple court, five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high. He stood on it, fell on his knees opposite all Israel’s assembly, and spread out his hands toward heaven.

Classification & Notes

Different

Text: Hebrew uses the word otherwise rendered basin for the structure supporting Solomon; platform expresses its function here. Greek explicitly calls it a base in the temple court. All three dimensions and the kneeling posture agree.

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

Verse 6:18 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:18] But will God truly dwell with human beings on earth? If heaven and the heaven of heaven will not suffice for You, what is this house that I have built?

Classification & Notes

Different

Text: Hebrew says cannot contain and argues how much less; Greek says will not suffice and asks what this house is. Both deny that the building measures God’s greatness. Rabbinic: The commentary presented as Rashi interprets this as astonishment at God’s accommodation of His presence and explains that the house serves prayer [R1]. Saints: Augustine, Confessions I.2–3, asks how God can dwell within a person while heaven and earth cannot contain Him, and argues that God sustains what He fills. This is thematic reception of divine transcendence and indwelling, not an explicit commentary on Chronicles [S1].

Verse 6:19 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:19] Yet turn toward Your servant’s prayer and his supplication, YHWH my God, to hear the cry and prayer that Your servant prays before You.

[LXX 6:21] Hear the supplication of Your servant and Your people Israel, whatever they pray toward this place. Hear in Your dwelling place, from heaven; hear and be propitious.

Classification & Notes

Different

Text: Hebrew explicitly asks forgiveness; Greek asks that God be propitious. Greek combines in Your dwelling place with from heaven, while Hebrew uses from in both phrases.

Petitions for judgment and restoration

Verse 6:22 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:22] If a man sins against his neighbor and an oath-curse is laid upon him to put him under oath, and the oath-curse comes before Your altar in this house,

Classification & Notes

Similar

Text: The requests for retributive judgment and vindication agree; Greek describes the offender as lawless.

Verse 6:24 Similar

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:24] If Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they sin against You, and they return, confess Your name, and pray and seek favor before You in this house,

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:24] If Your people Israel are crushed before the enemy, if they sin against You, and they return, confess Your name, and pray and supplicate before You in this house,

Classification & Notes

Similar

Text: Both connect defeat, sin, return, confession, and prayer; Hebrew makes the causal connection explicit, while Greek repeats if.

Verse 6:25 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:25] then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel. Bring them back to the land You gave to them and their fathers.

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:25] then hear from heaven and be propitious toward the sins of Your people Israel. Return them to the land You gave to them and their fathers.

Classification & Notes

Different

Text: Hebrew has singular sin and forgive; Greek has plural sins and be propitious. Restoration to the ancestral land agrees.

Verse 6:26 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:26] When heaven is shut and there is no rain because they sin against You, and they pray toward this place, confess Your name, and turn from their sin because You afflict them,

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:26] When heaven is shut and there is no rain because they will sin against You, and they pray toward this place, praise Your name, and turn from their sins because You humble them,

Classification & Notes

Different

Text: Greek uses praise and humble where Hebrew uses confess or acknowledge and afflict. Both connect drought with repentance under divine discipline.

Verse 6:27 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:27] then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants and Your people Israel, teaching them the good way in which they should walk. Give rain upon Your land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:27] then hear from heaven and be propitious toward the sins of Your servants and Your people Israel, for You will make known to them the good way in which they should walk. Give rain upon Your land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.

Classification & Notes

Different

Text: Hebrew’s teaching corresponds to Greek making known. The recurring forgive and be propitious distinction remains; both request rain on the inherited land.

Verse 6:28 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:28] If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, blight, mildew, locust, or devouring locust; if enemies besiege them in the land of their gates; whatever plague or sickness there may be,

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:28] If there is famine upon the land, if there is death, damage from wind or yellowing, locust or consuming locust; if the enemy oppresses them before their cities; in every plague and every suffering,

[LXX 6:29] and every prayer and every supplication that comes to any person or to all Your people Israel, if a person knows his own affliction and weakness and spreads out his hands toward this house,

Classification & Notes

Similar

Text: Both move from communal disaster to each person’s awareness of affliction and prayer; the nouns for suffering vary.

Verse 6:30 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:30] then hear from heaven, Your established dwelling place, and forgive. Give to each person according to all his ways, whose heart You know, for You alone know the heart of humanity’s sons,

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:30] then hear from heaven, from Your prepared dwelling place, and be propitious. Give to a man according to his ways, as You know his heart, for You alone know the heart of human beings,

Classification & Notes

Different

Text: Hebrew asks forgiveness and includes all his ways; Greek asks propitious favor and does not include all. Both reserve full knowledge of human hearts to God.

Verse 6:31 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:31] so that they may fear You, walking in Your ways all the days they live upon the land You gave our fathers.

Classification & Notes

Different

Text: Greek explicitly says every foreigner, describes an uplifted rather than outstretched arm, and says this place rather than this house. Both shift from a singular foreigner to plural they.

Verse 6:33 Similar

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:33] then hear from heaven, from Your established dwelling place, and do everything for which the foreigner calls to You, so that all earth’s peoples may know Your name and fear You as Your people Israel do, and know that Your name is called over this house that I have built.

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:33] then hear from heaven, from Your prepared dwelling place, and do everything for which the foreigner invokes You, so that all earth’s peoples may know Your name and fear You as Your people Israel do, and know that Your name has been invoked over this house that I have built.

Classification & Notes

Similar

Text: The prayer for foreigners and worldwide knowledge of the divine name agrees; the dwelling-place and name formulas reflect the recurring lexical distinctions.

Verse 6:34 Same

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:34] When Your people go out to war against their enemies by the way You send them, and pray to You toward this city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your name,

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:34] If Your people go out to war against their enemies by the way You send them, and pray to You toward this city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your name,

Verse 6:35 Similar

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:35] then hear from heaven their prayer and supplication and uphold their cause.

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:35] then hear from heaven their supplication and prayer and uphold their right.

Classification & Notes

Similar

Text: Greek reverses prayer and supplication; both ask for the people’s cause to receive justice.

Verse 6:36 Different

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

[BHS 6:36] When they sin against You—for there is no human being who does not sin—and You become angry with them and give them over before an enemy, and their captors carry them captive to a land far away or near,

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:36] For they will sin against You—for there will be no human being who will not sin—and You will strike them and hand them over before enemies, and their captors will carry them captive to an enemy land, a land far away or near,

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:38] and return to You with all their heart and all their soul in the land of those who took them captive, and pray toward their land that You gave their fathers, the city You chose, and the house I built for Your name,

Classification & Notes

Hebrew–English: Literal-Smooth (Rabbinic Priority)

Greek–English: Literal-Smooth (Saints Priority)

[LXX 6:42] Lord God, do not turn away the face of Your anointed one. Remember the mercies of David Your servant.”

Classification & Notes

Different

Text: The displayed BHS running form has the additional yod of a plural Your anointed ones; Greek is singular. The Hebrew text displayed with the commentary in R1 instead has the singular form, but no critical apparatus has been collated to adjudicate this display difference. The final genitive may concern David’s faithful deeds or mercies associated with him; the translation does not silently decide the direction of that relationship.
