Esther Pleads for Her Life and Her People

7:1The king and Haman went in to drink with the queen.

7:2On the second day, at the drinking feast, the king said to Esther, “What is it, Queen Esther? What is your petition, and what is your request? Let it be yours, up to half my kingdom.”

7:3She answered, “If I have found favor before the king, let my life be granted at my petition, and my people at my request.

7:4For I and my people have been sold for destruction, plunder, and slavery—we and our children as male and female slaves—and I let it pass. For the slanderer is not worthy of the king’s court.”

Haman Named Before the King

7:5The king said, “Who is this who dared to do this deed?”

7:6Esther said, “An enemy—this wicked Haman!” Haman was disturbed before the king and the queen.

Haman Falls upon the Couch

7:7The king rose from the banquet and went into the garden. Haman pleaded with the queen, for he saw that he himself was in trouble.

7:8The king returned from the garden, and Haman had fallen upon the couch, entreating the queen. The king said, “Are you even forcing yourself on the woman in my house?” When Haman heard this, his face changed.

Haman Hung on His Own Tree

7:9Bougathan, one of the eunuchs, said to the king, “Look, Haman also prepared a tree for Mordecai, who spoke concerning the king. A tree of fifty cubits has been erected at Haman’s place.” The king said, “Let him be fastened to it.”

7:10Haman was hung on the tree he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king ceased from his anger.
