Job: Until I Die I Will Not Let Go My Integrity

Job Takes Up His Prelude

27:1Job continued and said in his prelude:

27:2“As the Lord lives, who has judged me in this way,
and the Almighty, who embittered my soul,

27:3surely, while my breath is still within me
and divine spirit remains in my nostrils,

27:4my lips will not speak lawless things,
nor will my soul devise unjust things.

27:5May I never declare you righteous until I die;
for I will not give up my innocence.

27:6Holding to righteousness, I will certainly not let it go;
for I am not conscious of having done improper things.

27:7Nevertheless, may my enemies be like the overthrow of the ungodly,
and those rising against me like the destruction of the lawless.

27:8For what hope does the ungodly person have because he holds on?
Trusting in the Lord, will he really be saved?

27:9Will the Lord hear his plea?
Or when constraint comes upon him,

27:10does he have any freedom of speech before Him?
Or when he calls upon Him, will He hear him?

27:11But I will indeed announce to you what is in the Lord’s hand;
about what is with the Almighty I will not lie.

27:12Look, you all know
that you pile empty things upon empty things.

27:13This is an ungodly person’s portion from the Lord;
the possession of powerful men will come upon them from the Almighty.

27:14If his sons become many, they will be for slaughter;
even if they reach manhood, they will beg.

27:15Those remaining to him will end in death,
and no one will have mercy on their widows.

27:16If he gathers silver like earth
and prepares gold in quantities like clay,

27:17the righteous will acquire all these things,
and truthful people will possess his money.

27:18His house turned out like moths
and like a spider.

27:19A rich man lay down and will not do so again;
he opened his eyes, and he is not.

27:20Pains met him like water,
and gloom stole him away at night.

27:21A scorching wind will take him up, and he will depart;
it will winnow him from his place.

27:22He will hurl against him and will not spare;
from his hand he will flee in haste.

27:23He will clap his hands over him
and hiss him out of his place.”
